Teacups and beautiful tea models had been once an important part of any home. Tea parties had been an essential appearance of hospitality to friends, family and business associates. No housewife could become without her tea arranged and glass collection.Have you ever wondered why your grandmother had so many different kinds of teacups? All mismatched? I have. I believed that my grandmother was simply a collector, but I understand better right now. Most choices had been the result of a quaint tradition: the teacup shower.A few years ago, my sibling delivered me a container. It was packed with stuff that had belonged to my cousin, Rheta Akins. Given birth to in 1904, she grew up in the end of the Victorian era and went to college during the roaring 1920s. She married Homer Gillette in 1940. She was an artist, instructor, and champ of the disciplines in The southern part of California.Nestled aside in the box was an aged scrapbook titled, “Wedding Gifts.” Inside I found invites to bridal showers, greeting credit cards, newspaper clippings and lists of presents received. Many different parties had been thrown in honor of the new bride-to-be, but the one which intrigued me the most was “Ye Aged Teacup Shower.” There, I found a list of seventeen different kinds of teacups and saucers. It instantly dawned on me that this was how all these teacup series must have started. It must be a lost tradition that pale into background along with the practice of offering tea celebrations. I had not been at the party, as I hadn’t been blessed yet-but luckily a paper experienced recorded every details of the luxurious affair in a clipping I discovered in the scrapbook, which I will today share with you.Other things from Rheta’s teacup shower that you may or might not want to use:Tell all of us about your collection. Your most valued teacup. Where you got it. My preferred teacup is normally the Art Deco one in the introductory picture. It is certainly a rare one from Shelby in England. I adored it for years in my cousin’s china cupboard. When she handed away, my dad let me have it, along with many of her other gems, but that one is normally my fave! Designer shower curtains
